Classification & Compensation Study
As part of Jefferson College’s 2026–2030 Strategic Plan, the College is committed to building and sustaining a skilled, supported, and strategically aligned workforce that contributes to institutional excellence. A key part of this commitment is ensuring the College's position classifications accurately reflect the work being performed and support the institution's evolving workforce needs.
To support this work, Jefferson College is beginning a comprehensive Classification and Compensation Study. Following a competitive Request for Proposal (RFP) process, the College selected Evergreen Solutions, LLC to conduct the study. Evergreen was selected based on its demonstrated higher education experience, thorough and personalized approach, commitment to clear and consistent communication throughout the project, and alignment with the College's goal of evaluating and enhancing its existing classification structure.
The study will independently review the College's current staff classification system, including position descriptions, job classifications, and the overall classification structure. As part of this review, the study will also evaluate compensation practices to help ensure they support internal equity and external market competitiveness. The findings and recommendations will help the College identify opportunities to strengthen its classification and compensation practices.
As the project gets underway, additional information will be shared regarding the study process, anticipated timeline, and opportunities for employee participation. We will share updates through campus announcements and a dedicated Classification and Compensation Study webpage, which will serve as the central location for project information, updates, and frequently asked questions.
We appreciate your support and participation as we undertake this important work.
A classification and compensation study is a comprehensive review of how Jefferson College classifies and compensates positions. The study will evaluate position descriptions, job responsibilities, classification structures, and compensation practices to help ensure positions are appropriately classified, internally equitable, and competitive with the external job market.
Jefferson College is committed to maintaining a fair, competitive, and sustainable classification and compensation system that supports recruiting and retaining qualified employees. Periodic reviews help ensure our practices remain aligned with the College's evolving needs and the external job market. This study also supports Priority 3 of the College's 2026–2030 Strategic Plan, which focuses on building and sustaining a skilled, supported, and strategically aligned workforce.
Jefferson College has partnered with Evergreen Solutions, a consulting firm with experience conducting classification and compensation studies in higher education. Evergreen will work closely with Human Resources to evaluate the College's existing practices and provide recommendations for consideration.
The study will focus on the College's full-time and part-time staff positions.
It is too early to determine whether changes will be recommended for individual positions. The study may identify opportunities to update position descriptions, job titles, classifications, or compensation structures. Any recommendations will be reviewed by College leadership before decisions are made.
The study does not guarantee salary increases. One of its primary purposes is to evaluate how the College's compensation compares to the external market and to identify potential internal pay inequities. Any resulting compensation adjustments will depend on the study's findings, available resources, and College approval processes.
Employee and supervisor input is an important part of the classification review process. Opportunities for participation may include reviewing position descriptions, providing information about job responsibilities, or participating in other information-gathering activities. We will share additional details as the process is finalized.
The College is committed to keeping employees informed throughout the study. Updates, important milestones, and opportunities for employee participation will be communicated through College announcements and this webpage as information becomes available.
Additional information regarding the project timeline, anticipated milestones, and key dates will be shared as updates become available. We will continue to communicate important developments to keep the campus community informed as the study progresses.
