MoSEPWork Apprenticeship

MoSEPWorks

Missouri Southeast Pathways to Work (MoSEPWorks) is a collaboration of four 2-year institutions; Jefferson College, Mineral Area College, East Central College, Three Rivers College, and one 4-year institution Central Methodist University. The consortium works together to create and expand pre-apprenticeship and registered apprenticeship opportunities in the regions, focusing on the fields of teacher education, advanced manufacturing, and healthcare.

What is an Apprenticeship?

An apprenticeship is a structured work-based learning program where individuals gain hands-on experience in a specific industry they wish to pursue a career in. Apprentices receive guidance and mentorship from experienced professionals to develop the skills and knowledge required for their chosen occupation. Apprentices can be new hires or existing employees transitioning to a new role. They are compensated for all hours worked, and a registered apprenticeship program mandates at least one wage increase during the training period, based on predetermined criteria established when the apprenticeship begins. This model combines employment with education, providing valuable real-world experience.

Apprenticeship programs can be designed in three ways:

Competency-Based, Time-Based, or Hybrid. The choice of model depends on the job and the employer’s needs.

  • Competency-Based: apprentices must show they’ve mastered specific skills.
  • Time-Based: require completing a set number of hours in different training areas.
  • Hybrid: combine both methods.

These opportunities are available to ATS students, Jefferson College students, adult learners, current workers, and people seeking non-credit training.
