The Adult Education & Literacy (AEL) program is funded through the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education and is the only accredited program in Jefferson County. That is why these classes can be offered at no cost to students. However, to maintain funding, it is important that enrolled students demonstrate a commitment to the program with regard to attendance and academic achievement, including completion of a pre- and post-test to measure academic gain.

AEL has so much to offer— everything from completing your high school education to taking the first steps toward your career.

Jefferson College is pleased to offer this opportunity for students to discover their future and invites potential students to register!

Adult Education and Literacy (AEL) provides adults with the opportunity to:

  • Improve basic skills
  • Study for the High School Equivalency (HSE). Students may choose either the HiSET or GED®
  • Enhance workforce and college readiness skills
  • Improve English language skills
  • Prepare for Substitute Teacher and Paraprofessional certification
  • Receive TEAS (Test of Essential Academic Skills) preparation. The TEAS is often required to apply for classes in the medical field.

All classes are offered at no cost to the students; however, students may be responsible for any fees associated with testing or applications.
