Jefferson College applauds passage of statewide Transfer Bill benefiting Missouri students

Jefferson College is pleased to join community colleges across the state in celebrating the Missouri General Assembly’s passage of the Higher Education Core Curriculum Transfer Act, a major step forward in improving the transfer process for Missouri students.

The legislation, which now awaits the Governor’s signature, creates a 60-credit-hour, transferable lower-division course block for five high-demand degree programs: general business, elementary education, general psychology, nursing, and general biology or biological sciences. Once signed into law, this will guarantee that students who complete the approved coursework at any Missouri public community college, such as Jefferson College, can transfer those credits seamlessly to any public university offering the same program.

“This is a win for Jefferson College students and families across Missouri,” said Jefferson College President Dena McCaffrey. “Students who begin their education here at Jefferson College can be confident that their hard work will transfer with them, saving time, money and frustration. We are proud to be part of a statewide effort to improve student success and increase degree completion.”

In addition to creating guaranteed transfer pathways, the legislation requires all public institutions to adopt a common course numbering system and statewide course equivalency matrix to ensure consistency and clarity for students transferring between colleges and universities.
