Foreign Language

Why study Foreign Languages? Whether you decide to pursue a major in the Humanities, the Social Sciences, International Business or STEM, studying a foreign language is the perfect complement!  Jefferson College offers classes in French, German and Spanish. After completing the equivalent of 3 semesters of any one of these languages you will demonstrate speaking, listening, reading and writing proficiencies at the Intermediate Level as defined by the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages.

Credit for prior learning options are available for students who have taken French, German or Spanish in high school or who possess equivalent skills in these foreign languages. You may choose to participate in the Retroactive Credit Program or take the CLEP or AP exams in French, German or Spanish for college credit.

Many students taking foreign language at Jefferson College also pursue the Global Studies Certificate in conjunction with their Associate of Arts degree and may earn a special designation on their transcripts upon completion.
