Radiologic Technology

Radiologic technologists, also known as radiographers, perform medical exams using X-rays on patients to create images of specific parts of the body. They operate specialized imaging equipment to capture two-dimensional (2-D) and three-dimensional (3-D) images of the body's tissues, organs, bones, and vessels. These professionals work closely with physicians, ensuring that high-quality diagnostic images are produced for interpretation.

Program Overview

A career in radiologic technology can lead in many directions. Radiologic technologists are needed in every healthcare setting. You could work in a large hospital, a suburban outpatient clinic, or a rural physician's office. You could specialize in dozens of clinical areas, from prenatal care to orthopedics. You could manage an entire radiology department, including its budget and personnel. You could teach, inspire new generations of radiologic technologists, or perform research that leads to breakthroughs in diagnostic imaging.

The AAS Radiography Program offers a comprehensive 18-month curriculum that prepares students for their American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) registration/certification exam and entry-level radiologic technology positions. Many students begin working as student technologists during their fourth and fifth semesters at hospitals and urgent care centers. 

In addition, the Program offers continuing education to students and registered technologists in the fields of CT, MRI, and Mammography. Please see the Program's advanced modalities post-primary certification section for more information.

Academic Plan

The Academic Plan is a semester-by-semester plan for the full-time student. Part-time students should work with an advisor to customize the map to fit individual needs.

As required by the federal regulations outlined in 34 CFR 668.43(a)(5)(v), prior to enrollment in courses, applicants for programs that require professional certification or licensure in the State of Missouri are required to acknowledge the professional certification and licensure requirements in the state considered their permanent address.

If a student applies/intends to apply to a program requiring professional licensure, but the Jefferson College program does not meet the certification/licensure requirements in the student’s state of permanent address, the student must complete the attestation form prior to enrollment in courses indicating they plan to work in a state in which the Jefferson College program does meet the educational certification/licensure requirements. Students who do not complete the attestation will not be able to enroll in that program.

Radiologic Technology Program Statement:

The ARRT certifies Radiologic Technologists and is a National Registry. Some states do have specific requirements.  Please see the ASRT website for those states requiring additional qualifications.


Accreditation

The Jefferson College Radiologic Technology Program is an accredited program through the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT) and the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools Higher Learning Commission (HLC) and is a recognized accredited program by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists.

The JRCERT assures employers and prospective students that our program provides educational excellence and patient and professional safety. It is the faculty’s desire to create the highest quality Radiologic Technology Program available. If a student has concerns with program policies or practices, please bring them to the attention of the Program Director or the Clinical Coordinator. Issues may be easily resolved once we are aware of them. The Grievance and Appellate Process can be found within the student handbook.

The Radiologic Technology Program is a chartered member of the Missouri Gamma Sigma Chapter of Lambda Nu, a national honor society for radiologic and imaging sciences.


Imaging Assistant - MR

The in-person Imaging Assistant-MR program prepares students to play a vital role in MR level 2 safety, patient care, positioning, and assist with contrast administration, under the supervision of charge personnel. The students will not perform imaging or scanning, but will enhance patient safety, improve workflow, and support technologists in delivering high-quality care. This 15-week program consists of at least 45 didactic hours of instruction and a minimum of 100 hours of clinical practice under direct supervision. Upon successful completion of the program, students are eligible to take the ARRT Imaging Assistant-MR credentialing exam.

Advanced Modalities

The Jefferson College Radiology Technology program offers continuing education to students and registered technologists in the fields of CT, MRI, and Mammography.
