Ways to Give
Thank you for considering a gift to support Jefferson College!
The Foundation accepts all forms of gifts - cash, check, electronic funds transfer (EFT), and online. We are equipped to accept gifts of stock, real estate and personal property. Gifts from investment accounts can also come from required minimum distributions (RMDs) or directly from an established donor advised fund (DAF). We encourage you to remember the Jefferson College Foundation in your will, trust or estate plan. We have many options to help facilitate your support of our students and leave a lasting legacy. See below for more information on these gift types and please don't hesitate to reach out for more details.
Direct Gifts: Cash or Pledge
Donate online with your credit card, call the Foundation office to make your gift by phone or EFT, visit our office in person, or mail your check gift to:
Jefferson College Foundation
1000 Viking Drive
Hillsboro, MO 63050
If giving by mailed check, please use the memo line to indicate where you would like the gift to go. All undesignated gifts will support the Viking Fund (where needed most).
Establish a pledge to support Jefferson College in annual or monthly increments online (above) or by mailing or dropping off a Pledge Form.
Matching Gifts
Your employer may offer a matching gift program to encourage philanthropy to its employees. Some companies will even match gifts made by your spouse or those retired from the company. Matching gifts can be a significant resource for the Foundation. We are happy to facilitate researching whether your company or former company offers an eligible matching gift program.
Other Gifting Vehicles
Stock Transfers - a Tax-Saving Strategy: Highly appreciated publicly traded securities may be donated directly to Jefferson College for immediate use. Gifts of securities often have the greatest tax benefits.
Donor Advised Funds - An Simple Way to Leave a Legacy: If you or your family own a donor-advised fund or wish to establish one (there is no minimum amount to legally establish a DAF, making them an attractive option for tax savings), you may direct a distribution to Jefferson College for immediate use. You can direct your gift to a particular purpose (be sure to check with us to make sure your gift can be used as intended).
QCDs and RMDs for Retired Individuals: If you are aged 70 1/2 or older, you may direct a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD), from your IRA directly to the Jefferson College Foundation, the distribution is not subject to federal income taxes. Once an individual has reached their Required Minimum Distribution (RMD) age, the QCD can offset their Required Minimum Distribution.
Real Estate: You may gift private, commercial, or agricultural property to Jefferson College. Please contact the Foundation for guidance and coordination of the gift.
Personal Property: Assets with market value, such as art, coin collections, and even vehicles may be accepted as gifts. Appraised value must be determined to properly account for the contribution. Please contact the Foundation for guidance and coordination of the gift.
Scholarships and Endowments
Endowed Funds
An endowment establishes a legacy that provides a perpetual, dependable stream of funding for Jefferson College. You choose how to set up an endowment and how it will benefit Jefferson College (scholarships, departmental support, other). Many gift forms are acceptable to establish an endowed fund.
If you are interested in establishing an endowment for scholarships, please view our scholarship page. For endowments that support a specific area of the College, please contact the Foundation.
Annual Named Scholarships
Scholarships can also be established on an annual basis, rather than an endowment, or building up to reach endowed status through gifts over time. These scholarships can be focused on a specific program or address any area of need. Donors contribute the amount needed to fund the scholarship each year. If you are interested in establishing an annual named scholarship, please view our scholarship page.
Planned Giving
The easiest way to support the future of Jefferson College and leave your legacy is by including the Jefferson College Foundation as a designated beneficiary or contingent beneficiary of your:
- Life insurance policy
- IRA, TSA or other deferred plan
- Certificate of Deposit (CD)
- Other equity asset
You can also plan a gift to Jefferson College through a bequest. A bequest is also one of the easiest planned gifts and is usually a component of your will or living trust. Your future gift will support the Jefferson College Foundation and may be designated for scholarships or other areas of the Foundation.
For a simple will, a statement similar to the following is almost always sufficient:
I bequeath (dollar amount, percentage of my estate, and/or specific asset) to the Jefferson College Foundation, 1000 Viking Drive, Hillsboro, MO 63050. Federal tax ID 43-1611153.
Please contact the Jefferson College Foundation if you have established a legacy gift through your estate or if you have questions about planned giving.
The Jefferson College Foundation is proud to have earned the GuideStar Gold Transparency seal, demonstrating our commitment to best-practices in non-profit administration.
