Early Childhood Center Among First in Missouri to Achieve Rare “Exhibiting High Quality” Designation
The Jefferson College Early Childhood Center (ECC) has been officially recognized by the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) with the “Exhibiting High Quality” designation. This honor is part of the state’s new Quality Assurance Report (QAR) system, designed to recognize excellence in early learning and education programs throughout Missouri. The Jefferson College ECC is the first childcare center in the St. Louis region to achieve this distinction.
To achieve the "Exhibiting High Quality" status, the highest tier in the QAR framework, a program must meet strict scoring thresholds for teacher-child interactions and successfully verify at least four Operational Practices and four Responsive Practices.
The designation involved an intensive evaluation of the program’s environment and the submission of extensive documentation. Under the leadership of Director Stephanie Cage, the Center demonstrated excellence in eight key indicators:
- Operational Practices: The Center met rigorous standards in Business Practices, Professional Development, Health and Wellness, and Enhanced Program Features.
- Responsive Practices: The Center was approved for its high standards in Curriculum, Child Assessment, Family & Community Engagement, and Cultural & Linguistic Competency.
“This designation is not just a title; it is a reflection of the quality of our program and the dedication of our staff,” said Stephanie Cage, Director of the ECC. “Being among the very few programs in the state to hold this designation shows the high standards and care we bring to the families we serve.”
Representatives from the DESE QAR team will visit the campus in February to celebrate this achievement with the ECC staff and College leaders. The event will include a formal recognition of the Center’s role in caring for children and providing exceptional opportunities for learning.
