For the first time since adding softball and soccer teams in 2005, Jefferson College Viking Athletics will undergo an historic realignment of its sports program while adding four new teams, including the return of men’s basketball, beginning in the fall of 2023.

“This is an exciting time to be able to expand the rich tradition of Vikings Athletics,” said College President Dr. Dena McCaffrey. “The return of men’s basketball and the excitement of adding men’s and women’s cross country and competitive cheer will provide greater opportunities for local student and community involvement underscored by our high standards on and off the field.”

Jefferson College and Missouri State University 2+2 Agreement

In an effort to simplify transferability for Jefferson College graduates, earning a bachelor’s degree from Missouri State University just got easier thanks to a new 2+2 articulation agreement that has been established between the two institutions.

Jefferson College President Dr. Dena McCaffrey and Missouri State Provost Dr. Frank Einhellig signed the agreement during a recent visit to the Hillsboro campus.

With this agreement, the two institutions will develop transfer plans for all Jefferson College students who want to complete their degrees at Missouri State – either online or on the Springfield campus.

Spire launches program with Jefferson College

Spire and Jefferson College are teaming up to help prepare students for careers in the natural gas industry. This fall, Jefferson College students can apply for the Spire Cooperative Education Program at Jefferson College – a two-year educational, hands-on experience that prepares participants to become highly skilled technicians in the natural gas field, while they complete a heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) associate’s degree.

To qualify for the program, students must have a 2.5 GPA and complete an interview process.

Jefferson College to Award $1.3 Million in Student Emergency Grants

Jefferson College will distribute over $1.3 million ($1,305,078) in federal emergency financial aid grants in connection with stimulus funds through the Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act (CRRSAA) for students impacted by the ongoing COVID pandemic.

CRRSAA funds are available to support students struggling to cover any component of their educational costs or for emergency expenses that have arisen due to the coronavirus while attending Jefferson College.

Computer Integrated Manufacturing Program Receives $15,000 Grant

The Jefferson College Computer Integrated Manufacturing program was recently awarded a $15,000 grant from the Gene Haas Foundation for student scholarships, instructional materials, industry credentialing, and other efforts that promote advanced manufacturing education.

Currently there is a high demand for manufacturing technicians and skilled tradespeople in Jefferson County and the surrounding region. In many instances, jobs are so plentiful that there are not enough workers to fill needed positions. Most students in the Jefferson College CIM program receive job offers before they complete their training.
