Marketing and PR Department Wins Medallion Awards of Excellence

For the tenth consecutive year, the Jefferson College Marketing and Public Relations Department has been recognized for its creative and professional excellence by the National Council for Marketing and Public Relations (NCMPR). The department won eight “Medallion of Excellence” Awards during the NCMPR District 5 awards ceremony, which is the most by any community college in Missouri.

Jefferson College earned gold in six categories including Annual Report, Flyer, Print Wildcard, E-Newsletter, E-Card, and TV/Video Paid Advertisement. Certificates for bronze were awarded in Logo Design and Social Media or Online Marketing Campaign.

Webster University Creates “Heartland” Scholarship Program

Webster University recently launched the Heartland Promise Initiative, a program at Jefferson College that will encourage students to pursue four-year college degrees. Scholarships will be awarded to offset the costs of tuition, books, and room and board.

The program is designed to address a troubling statistic that is often overlooked when addressing barriers to attaining a college education: rural high school students have a significantly lower acceptance rate to four-year institutions than students in urban areas.

Radiologic Technology Student Is State Winner of Breaking Traditions Award

Jefferson College student Robert Smith recently received the statewide Breaking Traditions Award for his success as a nontraditional student in the College’s Radiologic Technology program. The awards, sponsored by the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE), provide an opportunity for students, career-technical programs, educators, and schools to receive recognition and statewide acknowledgment for their achievements related to nontraditional careers.

Girls Learn About Excitement of HVAC Careers at Jefferson College

Each year, Jefferson College Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Instructor Kati Donahue talks to dozens of girls about the many opportunities that available in the trades and HVAC-R field. As educators, Kati and her peers at the College tried several things to try to engage females, including visiting area high schools and inviting girls to come tour the College’s HVAC labs and facilities. Those efforts, however, did not result in increased female enrollment.

After discussing with her peers, they changed their focus from those who were currently in high school—realizing that many had already decided what career they wanted to be when they “grow up”--to a younger demographic of girls in grades 5-8.

Jefferson College and CMU Expand Articulation Agreement

A longstanding articulation agreement between Central Methodist University (CMU) and Jefferson College has been expanded to provide additional opportunities for local students to pursue a bachelor’s degree in a variety of fields.

The partnership provides an educational pathway for students that leads to further degree attainment and success. By starting their education at a community college, students save money with Jefferson College’s reduced tuition costs, while ultimately earning a bachelor’s degree as if they attended all four years at CMU.
