Jefferson College to Award $1.3 Million in Student Emergency Grants

Jefferson College will distribute over $1.3 million ($1,305,078) in federal emergency financial aid grants in connection with stimulus funds through the Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act (CRRSAA) for students impacted by the ongoing COVID pandemic.

CRRSAA funds are available to support students struggling to cover any component of their educational costs or for emergency expenses that have arisen due to the coronavirus while attending Jefferson College.

“We are a year into this pandemic and a lot of economic situations have changed for families. We know many of our students continue to struggle financially,” said College President Dr. Dena McCaffrey. “According to the act passed by Congress, students with the highest need are being prioritized.”

Degree and certificate-seeking students, as well as non-degree seeking, non-credit, dual enrollment, and continuing education students participating in spring 2021 courses, may apply for a CRRSAA emergency financial aid grant. CRRSAA funds are limited to U.S. citizens and eligible non-citizens. International students are not eligible. Although recipients need not be Title IV eligible, post-secondary students with exceptional need documented through completion of Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) may receive priority awarding.

Requests will be considered on a first-come, first-served basis until funds are depleted. Submission of an application is not a guarantee that a grant will be awarded. Students who have withdrawn from Jefferson College are not eligible. For consideration, students are required to complete an application identifying their hardship.

Approved grant amounts will be based on spring 2021 enrollment level at the time of payment. For non-degree students, a comparable level of enrollment will be determined. Title IV eligible students with a Pell-eligible income level and those graduating from an essential worker degree or certificate program in spring or summer 2021 will receive a $100 bonus amount to support their completion.

The following amounts will be awarded to approved students:

  • $100 - less than half-time enrollment (5 or less credit hours)
  • $250 - half-time enrollment (6-8 credit hours)
  • $500 - 3/4 time enrollment (9-11 credit hours)
  • $750 - full-time enrollment (12 or more credit hours)
