Course Description: Prerequisites: Admission to Bi-Level Nursing program and reading proficiency

Fundamentals of Nursing course is designed to assist a beginning nursing student in acquiring a foundation of basic nursing theory. Students will explore the role of the practical nurse as a supportive member of the healthcare team and in performing skills associated with care of the adult and elderly client. Embedded within the course are 32 hours of clinical simulation laboratory time. (F, S)

Bio: Mrs. Akridge entered the healthcare field after attending Certified Nurses Aide classes at Jefferson College in 2006. Since then, she has obtained her Bachelors of Science in Nursing from St. Louis University (2011) and Masters in Nursing Education from Walden University (2019). Mrs. Akridge worked in acute care for over 10 years as well as hospice. She has been certified in medical surgical nursing, and has also participated in many leadership roles and research studies. She joined the Jefferson College Bi-Level Nursing team in the spring of 2017 as a clinical instructor, teaching medical-surgical clinical rotations, before accepting a full-time faculty position in the fall of 2017. Mrs. Akridge is excited to share her clinical reasoning, knowledge, and leadership with the nursing students of Jefferson College.
