Bio: Joseph Thurman holds a Master of Arts in Museums, Heritage, and Public History (2024), a Master of Arts in European and American History (2004), and a Bachelor of Arts in History (2003) from the University of Missouri - St. Louis. He also completed a Graduate Certificate in Community College Teaching and Learning (2009) at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Mr. Thurman began teaching at Jefferson College in 2004. His courses include U.S. History, Ancient Civilizations, Renaissance and Early Modern Europe, Modern Europe, Missouri History, and African American History. In addition to the classroom, Mr. Thurman has also worked in the field of public history, including the Missouri History Museum and the Missouri State Archives - St. Louis. He is also the host of The Jefferson County History Minute. His research interests include the Era of Reconstruction and the Gilded Age, with particular emphasis on the field of African American agency and education.
