ANNOUNCEMENT: The Co Directors, the Lisas were recently awarded the State of Missouri's MCCA Global Educator Awards of the Year - 2009  for tireless and extraordinary promoting global education initiatives within their own college systems and throughout Missouri Community colleges. Hollander and Spaulding's leadership have sown the seeds of profound change within their own institutions and througout the colleges of the MCCA. Congrats....

Co-Directors:
Lisa Hollander, MIA -Columbia University, NYC (30%) – Professor of History and Geography at Jefferson College, Hillsboro, Missouri, Director of her college’s Global Studies Program, winner of the Governor’s Award in Teaching Excellence 2007, Hollander will provide most of the daily management of the grant. She has a Diploma in International Politics from the London School of Economics, a Master’s from the School of International Affairs at Columbia and was accepted into a MA Geography program at Southern Illinois University. Hollander was born and raised in Africa (Zimbabwe, Tanzania, Kenya then Morocco), spent several years in the Middle East and has lived in an additional seven nations. Her direct personal experience will be invaluable for this project.

Lisa Spaulding, PhD-University of Nebraska (30%)-  Associate Professor of English at the Penn Valley campus of Metropolitan Community Colleges in Kansas City, Missouri. Spaulding is Secretary of the MCCA- Missouri Consortium for Global Education, wrote the winning Title VIA grant narrative and budget details, participated in the previous Title VIA grant and is most interested in Global Education and Assessment. She hopes that all her students become active in the world. She will perform day to day management of the grant along with Hollander and work with the coordinators to make sure that workshops are held on time and projects deadlines are met. She is responsible for liaison with the Department of Education. Spaulding has conference organizing experience and that experience will be invaluable for the success of the grant activities.

Coordinators:
James Kellerman, PhD. (15%) -  Chief Executive Officer of the Missouri Community College Association, the umbrella organization for the whole project. He will provide statewide high level coordination and will oversee the budget, official communications with the federal Department of Education and assist with reporting responsibilities. His office will also provide clerical assistance as needed. Kellerman has been President of several community colleges in the United States, and was CEO of  Florida’s Community College Association and then California’s Community and Junior College Association. He won Global Educator of the Year from the MCCA in 2004. He served as a leader and coordinator of the previous Title VIA grant and his expertise is crucial to the success of this grant. 

Kent Farnsworth, PhD. (10%) - Director of the Center for International Community College Education and Leadership at the University of Missouri-St Louis. From Utah originally, he holds an MA in International Relations from California State University – Sacramento, and in Guidance and Counseling from Truman State University. His Doctorate is in Mass Communication from the University of Iowa. A former President of Crowder College (19 years) and a Co Coordinator of the previous Title VIA Grant that the MCCA obtained, Kent will play a major role in the selection of consultants, speakers for the workshops and for the third year statewide conference. He will also provide advice and assistance as needed. In 1989, he was  named one of “America’s Transformational Leaders in Higher Education” by the League for Innovation and in 2002, Dr. Farnsworth received the Werner Kubsch Award for Outstanding Achievement in International Education, awarded by Community Colleges for International Development. For the past four years he has been actively involved in consulting with the Ministry of Education in Thailand where they are developing a new community college system

Paul Long, MA (10%) – Vice Chancellor for Educational Services at Metropolitan Community Colleges in Kansas City.  Teaching has been Paul Long’s passion for more than twenty years at UMKC and MCCKC. Long received a master’s degree in philosophy from the University of Kentucky and a bachelor in philosophy and political science from the University of Missouri-Kansas City. He will provide statewide coordination at the highest levels among the community college leadership with Kellerman and take primary responsibility for development and coordination of foreign language workshops and course development.
