Real, Live, In-Person Help!

Finding Information
The Library staff is available to help you find information and to answer your questions at the first floor Circulation and Information Desk. Ask for reference assistance whenever you have difficulty locating information or using Library resources. There is also an Information Desk on the second floor. If this desk is not staffed, please ask for help at the  first floor Circulation Desk.

Computer Help
Do you really want to look through MILLIONS of websites to find what you need? Our Librarians can help you refine your searching to produce more targeted, useful results. Also, they can help you determine whether a particular web site is appropriate for college-level research. If you are using a computer in the Information Commons, the library staff can also answer your word processing and Blackboard questions.

All about Chat...

What is Instant Messenger (IM) or "chat"?
IM is a way of communicating with others over the Internet. It allows two people to type messages to one another and have a virtual "conversation."

I don't use IM. Where do I start?
Click below, on your preferred Instant Message icon for instructions on how to download the free software, and get your own screen name.

What do I need to do to IM a Librarian?
If you already have an IM account, simply add us to your buddy list and then open a chat with us. If you do not want to download any software, you can chat using the Meebo box provided on this page.

Will a librarian answer right away, or will I have to wait?
Patrons visiting the Library in person will have priority. However, we will answer your question as soon as we are able, on a first-come, first-served basis. If you aren't receiving an answer, feel free to give us a call at 636-789-3000, ext. 160, 161, 166, 167 (Hillsboro), 556 (Arnold), or email us at This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it , or stop by the Circulation Desk.

I have a question about my Library account. Should I be concerned about giving my personal information to Library staff on IM?
The Library will save the logs of our chats for 30 (thirty) days. This is for quality assurance and follow-up purposes only. We will not publish personal information that is discussed in our sessions.
