For Your Students

Library Use Instruction
Are you tired of reading papers supported only by unreliable websites? A LUI session can help your students feel more comfortable, confident, and competent in using the Library. Here are some basic LUI modules:

  • Find a Book
  • Find Articles
  • Evaluating Sources
  • College 101 Sessions

LUIs can be customized to include key resources in your field, requesting MOBIUS materials, or whatever else you feel your students may need to succeed in your class and become information literate.

Contact Lisa Wolfe at ext. 161 or Lisa Pritchard at ext. 160 to schedule Hillsboro or Northwest sessions. Call Dawn Dickey at ext. 556 to schedule Arnold sessions. Or submit your request online.

Library a la Carte
Would you like to have an in-class mini LUI that includes a cart full of books your students could use for inspiration? A Library staff member will be happy to bring a customized collection, along with a laptop for database and web exploration for that special assignment. Schedule just as you would a LUI.

Course Reserves
The circulation staff can make resources such as supplementary texts or sample tests readily available for your students. Call the Circulation Desk at 166 or 167 or submit your request online.

Assignment Alerts
Let the Library staff know what your students will be looking for in the Library and we can make sure it is available and that they find it! Call the Circulation Desk at 166 or 167 or submit your request online.

Collection Development
Have you seen a book that would be perfect for your students? Is there a video that you would like to show in class? If these materials are not in our collection, you may suggest we add items to our collection. In addition, if you notice materials in our collection that you would like to see reevaluated or replaced, you can make that suggestion as well. Submit your request online or contact Lisa Pritchard at ext. 160 or Lisa Wolfe at ext. 161.

For You

Alerts @ your Library
Stay up to date! Many online databases offer an "alert" feature. This feature can be used to notify you when new information is added to the database about a particular topic or person. Alerts @ your Library can:

  • Set up a specialized alert for your research
  • Deliver the table of contents from a favorite journal to your inbox
  • Keep you up to date with searches relevant to your field

Instead of an email alert, you can visit your favorite database and set up an RSS field to view your favorite publication's latest articles. If a journal is not available online in full-text, you may request that we send a copy of the article through interoffice mail or email. Contact Lisa Wolfe at ext. 161 for more information.

First Look @ your Library
Have a favorite journal you absolutely need to see when it arrives at the Library? You can request that the item be routed to you with this service. First Look items come by interoffice mail, already checked out for one week. Contact Lisa Wolfe at ext. 161.

Recent exhibits include Wild about Harry!, Banned Books Week, Career Information and National Poetry Month. If you are interested in a collaboration, contact Lisa Pritchard at ext. 161 or Vic Evans at ext. 166.
