Careers in Education Event - March 26, 2014

My next move allows is an easy-to-use tools that allows you to search occupations in multiple ways.   Search by industry, green careers, level of required education, or bright outlook.  If you are still uncertain, take a quiz to determine your area of interest. 
Keirsey Temperment Assessment
People are different and knowing your temperament helps in your career search. Learn more about YOUR thoughts and feelings, YOUR wants and beliefs, YOUR values and talents by taking the Keirsey Temperament Sorter II.  There is no charge and everyone who completes the questionnaire receives a free Temperament description.

Career Interests Game
The University of Missouri-Columbia Career Center has great information about matching careers to your personality type.  The Career Interests Game is based on John Holland's Self-Directed Search. This assessment helps you match your interests and skills with careers that fit, giving you career suggestions based on your Holland Code. After you decide on your three letters, just click on the category heading for career suggestions and personality traits.

Missouri Connections

A web-based assessment to assist Missouri citizens determine their career interests, explore occupations and establish educational plans, and develop job search strategies.   You can obtain a login ID and password from the Career Advisor in the ARC to access Missouri Connections.


Career Exploration Course
Still unsure of what direction you would like to take?  Enroll in GUD 101: Career Planning and Exploration, which is an orientation to career decision-making. The course overviews the world of work; explores personal values, needs, and skills; and studies major occupational fields. You will have the opportunity to take more intensive career assessments including the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator and Career Assessment Inventory, doing extensive research on occupations.                   Credit hours:2, Prerequisite: None

Missouri Occupational Profiles
This is an excellent resource to learn about various career pathways by industry.  Information includes educational resources and salary/employment projections.

Occupational Outlook Handbook
The Occupational Outlook Handbook is a publication of the United States Department of Labor's Bureau of Labor Statistics that includes information about the nature of work, working conditions, training and education, earnings, and job outlook for hundreds of different occupations.  

Chronical Briefs 
Chronicle Occupational Briefs present information on more than 2,000 occupational titles, including 650 comprehensive occupational descriptions, ranging from those that require a high school diploma or less, through professional careers.

O-NET Online
The O*NET Interest Profiler (IP) is a self-assessment career exploration tool that can help you discover the type of work activities and occupations that they would like and find exciting.  Students identify and learn about broad interest areas most relevant to themselves, then use your interest results to explore the world of work.
