Early Childhood Education

The Jefferson College Teacher Education Program includes Early Childhood, Elementary, and Secondary Education. With the help of outstanding professionals from Jefferson County and around the state, the program was developed to give all teacher education majors, pre-school through secondary certification, a positive and effective start on their journey into the field of education.

The vision and purpose of the Jefferson College Teacher Education Program is to facilitate the development of effective professional teachers by providing a sound foundation in the liberal arts and in teacher education. This foundation not only enhances the educational experiences of preservice teachers at the senior colleges and universities, but also positively affects the quality of their performance in the birth through twelfth grade (B-12) setting.

By creating an academic culture that is responsive to the needs and diversity of the preservice teacher, the Jefferson College Teacher Education Program models the constructivist teaching philosophy. The program consists of a fourteen-hour core of education courses that includes a 40-hour field experience component. Students who complete the 14-hour core and graduate with an Associate of Arts degree will receive a program completion stamp on their transcript. This stamp helps provide a seamless transfer into a senior institution for completion of certification work.

The entire Jefferson College faculty will work with you to help you be successful. Feel free to contact the teacher education faculty or other faculty members for advising. We want you to be successful in our program.
