Associate of Arts in Teaching

The new Associate of Arts in Teaching degree is comprised of 42 credit hours of general education, the 14 credit hour Teacher Education Core, and a minimum of six additional credit hours in electives (depending on certification area). Following is the Teacher Education Core:


EDU105 Exploring the Field of Education  (1 credit hour)

EDU205 Technology for Teachers (3 credit hours)

EDU210 Foundations of Education (3 credit hours)

EDU225 Educational Psychology (3 credit hours)

EDU230 Teaching Profession with Field Experience (3 credit hours)

EDU280 Education Capstone  (1 credit hour)


After completing the Associate of Arts in Teaching degree, students transfer to an approved four-year college or university to finish their bachelor’s degree with teacher certification. Jefferson College offers students the convenience of 2+2 programs that allow students to earn certification in elementary and/or early childhood education.
