Repeat Coursework Policy
In order to receive federal financial aid funds for a repeat course, a previously passed course may be repeated only ONE time and the student may receive Title IV federal funds for a repeated course only one time. Subsequent repeats will not be counted in the student's enrollment level for Title IV funds.

A course is considered passed if the student receives a grade of D or better. If the student does not receive a passing grade, there is no limit on the number of attempts. A student may repeat a failed course until it is passed. However, a student who earns a passing grade in a course and chooses to retake the course a second time, earning a grade of "F", may not take the course a third time.

All repeat courses affect financial aid satisfactory academic progress calculations. A repeated course along with the original attempt will be counted as attempted credits.

The calculator will provide an estimate of grant and scholarship aid available based upon student characteristics. Please note, this calculator is for estimates only.

Return of Federal Title IV Grant and Loan Assistance

Under certain conditions, students are obligated to return federal Title IV grant and/or loan assistance.  Jefferson College is required to abide by the federal regulations. The current revisions and requirements of the federal law are maintained in the Student Financial Services Office, first floor of the Student Center building. Students may obtain copies of this information from the Student Financial Services Office or by downloading a copy of the Jefferson College Return of Title IV Funds brochure from the Financial Aid Forms and Publications page.

Federal Stafford Loan Program Deferment Options

Students who have obtained a Federal Stafford Loan are eligible for deferment of the repayment of the principal and interest of the loan, providing they are enrolled at least half-time at a Title IV eligible institution. In addition, a student may request one of the following options if they are experiencing difficulty repaying student loans:

Deferment:  Permission to postpone payments.
Forbearance:  Permission to postpone or lower monthly payments if you do not qualify for a deferment.
Consolidation:  Obtaining a new loan to pay off your student loans in full.
Alternative Payment Plans:  A graduated, income-sensitive or extended repayment plan.

None of the above options are automatic.  Borrowers should contact the loan holder and apply, usually in writing.  Full, on-time payments should be made until written approval has been received from the lender.

Student Loan Code of Conduct
To avoid any conflict of interest, Jefferson College strictly adheres to the Jefferson College Student Loan Code of Conduct.  A copy of the code may be downloaded from the Financial Aid Forms and Publications page.

Year Round Pell Policy
Due to federal budget cuts, Congress rescinded year-round Pell Grants. Therefore, summer Pell Grant funds will only be available to students who did not exhaust 100% of their Pell Grant awards during the preceding fall and spring semester.
