In response to regional employment openings regarding high-demand healthcare fields, applications are now being accepted for the next Certified Nurse Assistant training course through the Jefferson College Continuing Education and Workforce Development Department.

Right now, job openings for certified nurse assistants are plentiful throughout the St. Louis region and across the nation.

The eight-week Certified Nurse Assistant course is designed to teach students how to perform basic nursing care skills for residents in a long-term care facility under the supervision of charge personnel. Successful completion of the course will enable students to take the state examinations for certification as a nurse assistant.

Instructional topics include roles and responsibilities of the nurse assistant, understanding the elderly, safety, food service, personal care, restorative nursing, and special procedures. A variety of teaching methods are used such as lectures, skills demonstrations, clinical demonstrations, and supervision.

The course meets the required 75 hours of classroom training and 100 hours of supervised on-the-job training in an approved long-term care facility as mandated by the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services.

Acceptance into the CNA program is conditional upon meeting all criteria. For those that qualify, WIA (Workforce Investment Act) Funding is available to cover a majority of program costs.
