Jefferson College to Offer MO Master Gardener Program April 9-June 25 | Print |

As spring approaches and the weather gets warmer, anyone with an interest in gardening, plants, landscaping, or the outdoors, is invited to participate in the Missouri Master Gardener Training program hosted by Jefferson College and the University of Missouri Extension this spring beginning April 9.

 

Those who complete the 12-week course will be certified as a Missouri Master Gardener. No previous gardening or horticultural experience is necessary to participate. Classes will meet on Wednesday evenings from 6:30-9:30 p.m. in the Student Center on the Hillsboro campus.

 

Missouri Master Gardener courses include:

 

Growing Vegetables - April 9

Flowering Plants: Annual and Perennial - April 16

Container Gardening from 6:30-8 p.m. and Worm Gardening from 8-9:30 p.m. – April 23

Soil Science – April 30

Integrated Pest Management – May 7

Plant/Tree Disease – May 14

Rain Gardens – May 21

Insect Identification – May 28

Seed Starting/Greenhouse – June 4

Landscaping and Rain Barrels/Water Conservation – June 11

Turf Grass Management – June 18

Bee Keeping – June 25

 

The cost for the entire program is $150 plus a $50 deposit. Classes may also be taken individually for $20 each, but will not count toward the Master Gardener certificate.

Jefferson County Master Gardener GroupMembers of the Jefferson County Master Gardeners help beautify Jefferson College’s Hillsboro campus by voluntarily maintaining flower gardens and organizing plantings as part of the Missouri Master Gardeners program. The group is celebrating its 10th anniversary and has grown steadily with volunteer members representing all parts of Jefferson County.
