#13-105

In connection with the creation of the Jefferson College Police Department, Diane Scanga (Campus Police Department Chief) and Beau Besancenez (Campus Police Department Supervisor) were recently commissioned as the department's first officers during a ceremony led by Jefferson County Undersheriff/Board of Trustees President Lt. Col. Steve Meinberg and Jefferson College President Dr. Raymond Cummiskey.

The ceremony was held at the college's Law Enforcement Academy at Jefferson College Imperial and was attended by faculty, staff, students, and community members.

As Police Chief, Scanga, who is also the director of the college's Law Enforcement Academy, will oversee training regimens and ongoing drills, provide oversight regarding police matters, and act as a liaison between local law enforcement and the department. Besancenez will responsible for day-to-day operations, scheduling, and supervision of officers.

Taking proactive steps to safeguard the well-being of all students, visitors, and employees, last July the Board of Trustees approved the formation of a college police department staffed with POST (Peace Officers Standards and Training) commissioned officers who will have the authority to arrest and detain while enforcing all campus, local and state regulations.
