2005 Alumna of the Year - Ann Gettinger

Gettinger received her Associate of Arts degree from Jefferson College in 1985, having attended the college on a basketball scholarship. She then played volleyball on an academic and athletic scholarship to Truman State University in Kirksville, MO, where she graduated with a degree in biology and education.

After working at the College of St. Catherine in St. Paul, MN as a student employment director, Gettinger returned to the Festus area, where she accepted a position as a biology teacher and coach at St. Pius X High School. During her tenure as a volleyball coach, she led her team to the State Championship Match in 1995.

Ann Gettinger"Jefferson College provided a wonderful opportunity for me to explore avenues in the academic and athletic arenas," said Gettinger. "Thanks to instructors like Trish Loomis and JoEllen Stringer, I found a way to combine the two things I love, teaching and coaching, into a rewarding and challenging career."

Gettinger received a Master of Arts in Teaching from Webster University in 1996. She is currently completing her second year as a biology teacher and coach at Festus High School. Along with her golden retriever Juno, she is involved with Support Dogs, Inc., an organization which provides touch therapy for hospital and nursing home patients.
