2002 Alumna of the Year - Vera McCullough

"I have liked mathematics ever since I declared it my favorite subject in fourth grade. While at Jefferson College, through the inspiration of two professors I determined my career choice. I give thanks to Mr. Frank Wershing, Drama Department, who taught me how to be myself, and Mr. Richard Stansfield, my calculus professor, who inspired my current teaching technique."

Vera McCulloughMcCullough attended Jefferson College from 1968 to 1970 and received her Associate of Arts degree in Mathematics. She went on to Webster College where she received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Mathematics and a Master of Arts in Teaching, General Science emphasis.

In 1979, she began working for Fox School District where she has taught mathematics at Seckman Junior High and Seckman High School. McCullough has taught mathematics and science courses for students in the Fox District and currently serves as Math Department Chair. She has also served as Student Council co-sponsor since 1997.

McCullough has volunteered her time in the areas of Missouri Academy of Science serving as chairman of Junior High and High School judging for the Missouri State Conference for 8 years. In 1989, she began her volunteer work with the Mastodon Art/Science Regional Fair of Jefferson County. Currently she serves as the Fair's Executive Director.
