Twin City Area Optimists Support Scholarships With $4,000 Donation

The Twin City Area Optimist Club recently made a $4,000 donation on behalf of the service organization to Jefferson College in support of student scholarships.  The Optimist Club’s commitment to raise funds for Jefferson College scholarships spans 17 years with a total contribution amount of $34,000.

“This level of scholarship support demonstrates to our community that the Twin City Optimist Club is sincerely committed to helping deserving students achieve a quality education,” said Cummiskey. “Donations such as this allow Jefferson College to continue helping those that might not otherwise have the opportunity to pursue their dreams and goals. As a comprehensive community college, that’s what we’re all about.”

In the 2010-11 academic year, five scholarships will be awarded to applicants who demonstrate need, are residents of Jefferson County, and have a minimum 2.0 grade point average.

Optimist International is an association of more than 2,900 Optimist Clubs around the world dedicated to “Bringing Out the Best in Kids.” Every year, Optimists conduct 65,000 service projects and serve well over six million young people.
