The Center for Teaching and Learning is a faculty-driven endeavor, dedicated to promoting, facilitating, and honoring excellence in teaching and learning.
In Support of the College Vision and Mission
The Center for Teaching and Learning supports the vision of Jefferson College to foster a "participative, innovative learning environment," where "student success is central."
The Center for Teaching and Learning supports the mission of Jefferson College in its effort to provide a "quality college experience as it strives to meet the diverse needs of students and the community," and in its support of "superior teaching and service [that] foster a supportive learning environment" and "intellectual, social and personal growth."
CTL Goals
To support a community of learners in Arts & Sciences and Career Technical Education, the Director of Teaching and Learning:
Primarily, will
- Expand support for adjunct faculty, providing orientation, scheduling, resources, and mentoring;
- Provide orientation and support for new faculty;
- Coordinate evaluation of adjunct faculty;
- Plan in-service and professional development opportunities for faculty;
- Stimulate campus-wide conversation about teaching, learning, and assessment to share ideas and best practices; explore and disseminate research on pedagogical issues, best practices, assessment, and innovations in higher education that influence teaching and learning, and support faculty in similar efforts;
- Support faculty-initiated classroom research and innovative teaching;
In addition, will
- Nurture opportunities for partnerships;
- Compile and maintain, in collaboration with the library staff, a repository of faculty resources;
- Champion, publicize, and market the accomplishments of faculty and students,
communicating the faculty's commitment to teaching excellence and student
success;
- Encourage communication between administration and faculty and the education
community on and off-campus to foster student success;
- Determine ways to respond to the ongoing instructional needs of full-time and
adjunct faculty as indicated in private consultations and as indicated by the CTL advisory committee.
