Events in the Center for Teaching and Learning stimulate campus-wide conversation about teaching, learning and assessment. Faculty members share ideas and best practices in a collegial environment. They explore research on pedagogical issues and innovations in higher education. Events in the CTL include face-to-face workshops, online workshops, Brown Bag Lunches and program Meetings. All faculty members are invited to participate in CTL events.

NEW FACULTY COHORT

Each year, a cohort of new full-time faculty meet six times as a group with Sandy Frey to discuss topics related to teaching and student learning. The goal is that participation in these meetings will result in a more rewarding classroom experience for faculty members and increased success for students.

Comments from previous participants:

"Getting together with new faculty has been encouraging."

"I really liked how in the last couple of meetings we had an opportunity to share suggestions and frustrations. I think it brought us together as a group and allows us to process the information more readily."

"I enjoy obtaining ideas through group discussions from other faculty members."

“I thoroughly enjoyed my 6 sessions with Sandy this year.  She did a fantastic job and it has definitely helped my teaching with my students and players.”

“I really value the information you offer and I appreciate it.”

“It is great to meet together as a group and discuss a variety of techniques for effective teaching. It also serves as a support system for new faculty. Sandy is very open and knowledgeable [relative to] different learning styles of students and ways that instructors can meet student demands/needs.”

“I wish I would have had this my 1st year teaching at the 4-year level.”

“All was good, especially interaction with colleagues.”

“This was very helpful to me.”

“The six classes were very informative and beneficial…”
