Steve Jarvis, the tenth Coach to lead the Basketball Program at Jefferson College, enters his second year as Head Coach. Last year’s season was full of ups, downs and injuries as he took over the program right as practice began. But as the season ended the Vikings found themselves in a familiar position, playing for a championship. The team ended up as the Runner Up in Region XVI. The team was also awarded the MCCAC Sportsmanship Award.
Jarvis' most recent coaching stay prior to Jefferson College was at St. Louis Community College - Meramec where he led the program for seven years. Jarvis turned the Meramec program around and his 2006 team won the Region XVI championship. He was also named Region XVI Coach of the Year that season. At Meramec Jarvis coached a NJCAA All-American and several Academic All-Americans.
Jarvis began his coaching career at Maryville University where he was the Men's Basketball Assistant Coach for three years and Men's Basketball Head Coach for four years. Jarvis restored life back to the program which became a conference contender. Jarvis also was the Head Coach of Women's Softball at Maryville for six seasons. He led the team to multiple conference championships during that time. After Maryville, Jarvis spent one year as the Head Men's Basketball Coach at Parks College. Jarvis led that program in its last year of existence and led the team to the most wins in its recent history.
Jarvis is also involved in youth basketball in the area. He is the Director of the St. Louis Force Basketball Club. The club is in its second year and has over 180 kids in the program.
Jarvis played his college basketball at Maryville University where he is still number nine on the all-time scoring list with 1,242 points. Jarvis also saw court time on the Jefferson College court as a prep star at Potosi High School. Jarvis was a starter all four years, playing 108 consecutive games and was a two time All-State selection at Potosi. He scored 1,574 points during his high school career.
Jarvis earned his Bachelor's Degree in Business from Maryville University in 1988. He and his wife, Lisa have three children, Kayla, Taylor and Kaitlyn. The family lives in Eureka, Missouri.
Before joining the Jefferson College staff, Travis Cearley spent four years as the Girls Basketball Varsity Head Coach in Festus, MO from 2009-2013. Prior to that, he was the Boys Basketball Varsity Assistant Coach at Hickman High School in Columbia, MO from 2007-2009.
Cearley earned his Bachelor's Degree in Secondary Education and his Master's Degree in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Missouri-Columbia. He, his wife, Catherine, and his son, Fischer, reside in Festus, MO.
