Jefferson vs Blue River (10-8-13)

Jefferson College hosted Blue River on October 8th in a tense regional match.  Blue River pressured the Vikings all over the field throughout the game allowing the Viking little time to control and pass the ball.  During the first half, the Vikings had several chances to open the scoring but were unable to finish their chances.

The second half was equally as tense and hard fought.  Blue River had chances to score, but were frustrated by the Viking defense led by keeper Robert Jones.  The Vikings produced many more chances including a shot off the left post halfway throught the period by Luke Heneghan.  It appeared that the match was headed to overtime, but a Blue River foul with two minutes left in regulation time gave the Vikings a free kick just outside the eighteen yard box on the left side of the field.  Luke Heneghan drove a low ball into the penalty area that eluded several players and settled into the lower right hand corner of the net giving the Vikings a 1-0 lead.  Blue River pressed hard after the goal trying to equalize before time ran out, but the stout Vikings defense held firm.  The 1-0 victory raised Jefferson College's record to 11-6.  The Vikings will next host Maple Woods on Thursday, October 10th.
