Jefferson vs South Suburban (10-4-13)

Less than 24 hours after posting a 4-0 victory over a fine St. Louis team, the Jefferson College Vikings followed that up with another 4-0 win over the visiting South Suburban Bulldogs.  The Viking defense was outstanding in this game not only by recording the shutout but also by contributing to the scoring.  Eighteen minutes into the first half, Nijaz Muratovic sent a perfect cross from the left side to hard working defender Andrew Carlile who headed in the first goal from close range.  Then, after twenty minutes, Mathew Robinson hit the crossbar with a shot, and during the scramble in the penalty area, Co-captain Cameron Laywood headed the ball into the net.  The Vikings led at half time by a score of 2-0.

Twenty minutes into the second half, Cameron Laywood sent a through ball to Luke Heneghan who drove a hard shot past the outstretched goal keeper to make the score 3-0.  Finally sixteen minutes before time, Luke Heneghan took a direct free kick, and Co Captain Dwight Degazon sent a header over the goal keeper into the upper corner of the net.  Once again, the Vikings contributed a total team effort in this match.  Coach Garza again used every healthy player, and there was no noticebale change in the level of play.  The Vikings had the advantage in ball possession through the game and limited the Bulldogs chances to score.  The second straight shutout raised the Vikings recored to 9-6 in preparation for their visit to Crowder College on Sunday.
