Vikings Hammer and Sweep John A. Logan (3-8-13)
Winning ways continue for the Viking’s softball squad, which recorded a home doubleheader sweep of John A. Logan Community College Friday, March 8th.

The Vikings won the opener by an 8-0 margin and cruised 9-1 in the nightcap to improve to 4-0 on the season.

Megan Gurski went 3 for 3 and knocked in two runs and Laura Kabbaz collected a two-run homer in leading the Vikings offense in the opener.

Other hitters were Kara Pochon, 3-4; Amanda Williams, 3-4, Christina Young, 1-4 and Holly Marko 1-1 and two walks.

Runs were scored by Young (3), Gurski (2) Pochon (1), Kabbaz (1), Marko (1) and Williams (1).
Gurski picked up the win, allowing only three hits in six innings. She also fanned six batters and walked four.

In the second contest, Viking bats stayed hot with10 hits in the six-inning matchup.
The Viking hits include: Pochon, three singles and two RBIs; Williams, two singles and two RBIs; Jett Bouckaert, single and two RBIs; Young, double and RBI; and Taylor Simpson, single.

Runs were scored by Pochon (2), Cheryl Orlando, Chloe Wolf, Kayla Walters, Young, Williams, Simpson and Bouckaert scored once.

Chelsea Smith was the winning hurler, allowing one earned runs on three hits in six-innings. She also fanned two batters and walked one.
