5th Seeded Vikings Head for NJCAA National Tournament (11-7-12)

Jefferson College Soccer has received the #5 seed in the 2012 NJCAA National Soccer Tournament. The Vikings first game in the pool play format will be against Marshalltown Community College from Marshalltown, IA on Tuesday November 13th, 7:30pm. The Vikings second game will be Wednesday November 14th, 7:30pm against Tyler Community College, Tyler, TX. All games of the 2012 NJCAA National Tournament are being held at Darton College, Albany, Georgia. The four winners of pool play advance to the semi-final round held on Friday November 16th at 5:00 and 7:30pm. The National Title game will be played Saturday November 17th at 2:00pm.

Jefferson enters the tournament with 14-5-1 overall record and a final regular season national poll ranking of 10th in the nation. The Vikings have been anchored by sophomore NJCAA All-American candidates Daniel Arrazola, a skilled and athletic midfielder and Josh Ward a physical and powerful defender. Arrazola scored 6 goals and had 4 assists in the 2012 season while Ward netted 5 goals on the season as a “lock-down” defender. Significant contributors to the Viking team also include Pete Grindell-9 goals, Lance Kohler-5 goals, Robbie Adams-5 goals and keeper Josh Richter-16 shutouts. The Vikings are coached by 4th year head coach and 2012 Region XVI Coach of the Year Ricardo Garza and assisted by Alex Ochoa and Joe Lange.

The Vikings success on the national stage include a 2006 National Title and national tournament appearances in 2005 and 2007. 2012 marks the 5th time Jefferson has claimed the NJCAA Region XVI soccer title.
