Vikings OT Loss To ICC Was Hard Fought (9-20-12)

The Vikings lost a heartbreaker in overtime to Illinois Central College, 3 - 2. The Vikings scored first in regulation play at the 26th minute on a deflected goal by striker Robbie Adams with the assist going to Pete Grindel.  But a minute later, a penalty was called against the Vikings. The converted penalty kick by ICC tied the score at 1 - 1.  The Vikings missed an opportunity to regain the lead in the 31st minute when a foul on Pete Grindel was called against Illinois Central in the penalty area, but the spot kick was saved by the keeper.

The Vikings did regain the lead 15 minutes into the second half on a solo effort by Junior Milien. However, Illinois Central tied the score again late in the game to force overtime. Two minutes into overtime, a golden goal spelled an end to the Vikings fortunes.

Josh Richter had an outstanding game in goal in the losing cause making a number of great saves - many at point blank range - to keep the game close. The Vikings' midfield - captain Danny Arrazola, Rylan Smelcer, and Lance Kohler were prominent on offense and defense. Pete Grindel, Oscar Ortiz, and Robbie Adams created chances to score, and Brian Jurado played with skill and determination.
