Vikings Sweep Region Foe Maple Woods (3-21-13) Print

Jefferson College swept Maple Woods by the scores of 13-0 and 5-3 to remain undefeated at home. The Region XVI victories over Maple Woods extend the Vikings win streak to eight games.

Megan Gurski was once again stellar inside the circle, striking out six and allowing just one walk in the complete-game, 13-0 shutout. She is now 7-1 on the season with 67 strikeouts in just 39 innings of work with a 0.64 ERA.

Offensively, Kara Pochon did the most damage for Vikings going 3-4 with two doubles, scoring three runs and driving in two.

The Vikings also involved in the hitting attack came from Christina Young 2-3, Chloe Wolf 2-2, two doubles, Amanada Williams 1-3, Cheryl Orlando 2-2, two doubles, Jett Bouckaert 2-3, Kayla Taylor 1-3, Holly Marko 1-3, and Gurski 2-3.

In game #2 Chelsea Smith 5-1 turned in another solid pitching performance, striking out four hitters in seven innings of work while allowing three runs on eight hits.

The Vikings’ offense scored runs in each of the first four innings with Kara Pochon and Christina Young leading the way. Pochon went 3-4 at the plate including her third double of the day. Young was 2-4 and scored two runs.

 Emily Hillis, Holly Marko, Cheryl Orlando, Amanda Williams and Kayla Walters all had hits in the second game for the Vikings 5-3 win.
