Vikings Win 3-2 Over Parkland (8-27-12) Print

Less than 24 hours after an overtime 1 - 1 tie with South Suburban, the Vikings traveled to Champaign, Illinois and won a hard-fought game against Parkland 3 - 2. The Vikings came from behind, twice, first on a goal by midfielder Dwight Degason that was mishandled by the Parkland keeper, and then on a goal by striker Pete Grindel that was the culmination of an intricate series of combination passes.  Midfielder Oscar Ortiz sealed the victory with a classic strike after shredding the Parkland defense with nifty footwork.

With midfield general Daniel Arrazola limited to a cameo role due to injury, Rylan Smelcer commanded the midfield winning balls and orchestrating attacks. Josh Ward and keeper Josh Richter once again lead a strong defense.

The Vikings, 1-0-1, leave for Tyler, Texas next weekend, (Sept. 1) for two back-to-back games against nationally ranked teams, San Jacinto and Tyler community colleges.
