Admission Procedures

Veterinary Technology Admission Procedures

  1. Prerequisites for the program are high school or college level biology and chemistry. These courses must have been accompanied by a laboratory session and been completed within 5 years of the registration date into the Veterinary Technology Program. The student must have completed the courses with a "C" or above. For example, if you are applying for the fall 2011 semester, the date of completion for the biology and chemistry courses cannot be any earlier than 2006.
  2. Complete a general Application for Admission (denote Veterinary Technology as your major). This application can be submitted to the Office of Admissions in Student Services or completed on-line at www.jeffco.edu.
  3. Pay the one-time, non-refundable $25 application fee.
  4. Click here or Obtain a Veterinary Technology Supplemental Application from the Veterinary Technology Department, Career Education Building, Room #001, or (636) 797-3000, extension 3424 or 3488. Return the completed application to:

  5. Pay the $30 Veterinary Technology application fee (please pay at the cashier's window located in the Student Center) and enclose a paid receipt in the Veterinary Technology Supplemental Application.
  6. Submit official copies of high school and college transcripts to the Jefferson College Admissions Department.
  7. Complete the COMPASS Placement Exam given in the Testing Center at Jefferson College.
    1. Applicants are required to take the COMPASS Placement Exam within two years of application and are required to meet minimum scores in each area to be considered for the Veterinary Technology Program
      The minimum scores are as follows:
       

      Reading 81 or above
      Writing 70 or above
      Math Algebra; 42 or above

       

    2. In order for an applicant to take the COMPASS Placement Exam, he or she must make a general application to Jefferson College first. Once the application is made, COMPASS Placement Exam is given on a walk-in basis anytime the Testing Center is open. Be sure to bring a photo I.D. (Driver’s License, State I.D., or Jefferson College Student I.D.) and allow 2 ½ hours for the test. There is no charge the first time an applicant takes the COMPASS Placement Exam. If additional attempts are needed to improve scores, a referral form is needed from an instructor and a $10 fee must be paid at the cashier's window located in the Student Center.   8. Submit two form letters of professional and academic recommendation. These letters should be sent to:

  9. General Admission Applications can be completed and returned at any time. The Veterinary Technology Supplemental Application can be completed and returned to the Jefferson College Veterinary Technology Department from July 1 through February 28 of each year.
  10. The Veterinary Technology Admissions Committee meets to review applications in March of each year. ONLY COMPLETE FILES WILL BE REVIEWED. A maximum number of 36 students will be accepted into the Veterinary Technology Program. Letters will be sent to individuals informing them of the committee's decision.
